Simply put, Bucks County Pennsylvania is considered one of the most unique areas in the country. The county can be divided into three sections - Lower Bucks, Central Bucks and Upper Bucks. Although each section deserves its own tour, our focus is on Upper Bucks County.
Upper Bucks County includes river communities and quiet village hamlets. Our office is in the village of Upper Black Eddy, Bridgeton Township. Upper Black Eddy is the longest eddy on the Delaware River. Its name is a combination of this physical feature and the name of the original land grantee from William Penn to the Blacks Family. The village was once a stop for rafters bringing goods and lumber down the river. Today, you will see people fishing, canoeing, kayaking, rafting or just watching the wildlife along the river.
Throughout our tour of Upper Black Eddy and other Upper Bucks villages, you will be presented with rich history, natural beauty, quaint existence and diverse culture. All of these reasons and the close proximity of big city living is what attracts visitors to our corner of the world and often motivates them to stay.
As you learn more about Upper Bucks County today, you will gain an appreciation for the history, and Upper Bucks County is definitely rich with history. Our story begins hundreds of years ago when William Penn made an agreement to purchase land from the Lenni Lenape Indians. Although the original treaty was signed in 1686, it wasn't until 1737 when Penn's son wished to execute the treaty and the historical Walking Purchase took place.
Since that time, this area has always been a favorite stopping ground for river rafters bringing goods down the Delaware River and the mule barge operators of the Delaware Canal. Our office (circa 1730) started as a tavern and ferry stop for the river and canal workers. There are some that believe that a few spirits still remain, watching over the ebb of the Delaware.
Today, the locals strive to preserve this beautiful area and you will find an abundance of Historic Places dating back to the Revolutionary War period. Much of the original architecture still remains today.
